Commission Terms & Conditions

Thank you so much for trusting me with your vision! Please read everything thoroughly!
These terms explain how commissions work so that both of us know what to expect.
Currently, my commissions are open

1. How commissions work
- Submit the commission form. This is a request, not a booking. The form will be linked at the bottom of this page.
- I review it and reply within 4-6 business days with a quote and estimated timeline, or let you know I can't take it on.
- Your commission is confirmed once you accept the quote and your deposit is paid.
- I'll update you at the milestones listed below.
I take a limited number of commissions at a time. Spots are first come, first served.
2. Scope and deliverables
Each quote lists exactly what is included: item type, quantity, approximate dimensions, materials, colors and finishes. Anything not listed (extra pieces, added details, wiring, packaging upgrades, etc.) is not included and will be quoted separately. Changes to the scope after approval are treated as a new quote.
3. Approvals before I begin
Because handmade work can't be easily redone once made, I'll confirm the key details with you before starting. Depending on the piece, that may include size and shape, glaze color, shade material and color, etc. Once you approve these, any changes may affect the price and timeline, and/or may not be possible.
4. Handmade variation
Every piece is made by hand. Small differences in size, shape, color, texture, and glaze are normal and part of the work. Ceramics shrink in the kiln, so dimensions are approximate (within about [5-10%]). Sets will be cohesive but not identical unless we agree otherwise. Colors may look different on your screen than in person.5. Pricing and payment
- Deposit: 40% of the total, including any rush fee, shipping, and sales tax, due to confirm your commission and cover materials. The deposit is non-refundable.
- Balance: due before shipping and/or before pickup.
- Accepted payment methods: Venmo, Zelle, Apple Pay, Stripe (via website orders).
- Rush orders: available for an additional 25% of total fee if/when my schedule allows.
- Taxes: is included in the quote and must be paid with deposit.
6. Timeline
Timelines are estimates. Ceramics involves drying, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing, and woven work has its own lead times. I'll share via email my estimate timeline in the quote and update you at these points: deposit received, approvals confirmed, work in progress, finished piece ready.
The timeline begins once your deposit is paid and all approvals and any client-supplied materials are in hand. If I'm delayed by illness, equipment trouble, or material shortages, I'll tell you promptly and give a new estimate. If you're slow to respond ( more than 7 days) the timeline shifts accordingly. If I deliver more than three weeks after the estimated completion date in your quote (not counting time spent waiting on your approvals or responses), you may request a refund in writing. I'll refund the unspent portion of your payment. If a piece needs remaking after kiln loss, I'll give you a new estimated date and the three weeks counts from that date.7. Revisions
I'll make adjustments at the approval stages described above. Because handmade work can't be revised after firing or weaving, there are no changes to a finished piece. If something doesn't match the approved details, see section 8. Kiln loss, damage, and remakes
Sometimes pieces crack, warp, or glaze badly in the kiln. If a piece is lost during making, I'll remake it at no extra charge and the timeline will extend. If the remake also fails, I'll refund the unspent portion of your payment. If your finished piece arrives with a defect that doesn't match what we approved, contact me within 7 days with photos. I'll repair, remake, or refund at my discretion.
9. Cancellations and refunds
- Before work begins: you may cancel and receive a refund minus any non-recoverable costs, such as materials already purchased.
- After work has begun: the deposit is non-refundable. A partial refund of the balance may be offered depending on how far the work has progressed.
- Made-to-order items are not eligible for returns or refunds because of a change of mind.
- I may cancel a commission if we can't agree on the details or if the work can't be completed safely. In that case you'll receive a refund of the unspent portion of your payment.
10. Shipping and pickup
- Shipping is paid by the client. I pack each piece carefully and photograph it before it ships, but I don't carry shipping insurance. Carrier insurance is available at cost and is added to your quote; if you decline it, you accept the risk of loss or damage in transit. Once the carrier has the package, it is the carrier's responsibility, including any delays caused by carriers or customs. If your piece arrives damaged, contact me within 48 hours with photos of the item and the packaging so we can file a carrier claim if coverage was purchased.
- Local pickup is available! Please inspect your piece when you collect it, as responsibility passes to you at handoff.
- Care and safe-use instructions for your piece are provided in the commission form and with your finished piece. By submitting the form, you acknowledge them and agree to use the piece as intended.
11. Ownership, liability, and changes
- You own the physical piece once it is paid for. I keep the copyright in my designs, and you may not copy, reproduce, or sell reproductions of them without my written permission.
- I may photograph the finished work and share it on my website, social media, and promotional materials. If you'd like to opt out of public sharing or of being named, tell me before work begins. If you post the work, credit is appreciated: @danamarini_.
- Please only send references you have the right to use. I make original work inspired by your references and won't copy another artist's work or protected designs.
- Feel free to reach out via email with any questions and concerns!
